Android is a operating system developed for smartphones and tablets based on the Linux Kernel, designed for touchscreen devices as mentioned above. It is an open source Operating System(OS) which is openly available for everyone on internet. There are variety of manufacturers who use android source code and build smartphones. You can customize it in your own way if you know android programming.

After the release of Android Marshmallow (Version - 6.0) update in October 2015, Android officially released its latest version Android Nougat (Version - 7.0) on August 22, 2016 .
Basically, it took a long time for the smartphone/tablet users to get marshmallow update.
It depends upon the manufacturer to upgrade new version of OS for its smartphone and tablet users. So, we have to wait for the updates until announced by the manufacturer. If your smartphone is compatible for the latest version, then you must wait for the updates to arrive buddy. 😉
Rumors are that Nougat will be available for only selected devices. *Fingers crossed* 🙇
Currently supported devices for this latest version are : Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9 (WiFi and LTE), Nexus Player, Pixel C, and the General Mobile 4G (Android One) device.

  1. Android Nougat is the 7th OS version of Android.
  2. Nougat 7.0 final preview was first available for Nexus devices
  3. Android Nougat was released up to 5 beta versions to the developers and testers for trying the new OS features.
  4. First beta version was released on March 9, 2016  . 
  5. Out of 5 beta previews released, beta preview-1 and 2 were for developers. Beta preview 3 and 4 were for public and developers . 
  6. Final Beta preview 5 was released on July 18, 2016  
  7. Officially Android 7.0 was released on August 22, 2016 .
  8. Android 7.1 was officially announced on October 11, 2016 by google .  Final release for updates to some devices will be announced in December.
  9. Until June 30, 2016 Android's latest version was code named as N.They even kept a Contest for guessing the right answer. Rumors were that it would be Nutella. But Unfortunately it was named as Nougat. 😕
  10. Preview builds were compatible only with Google Nexus devices such as Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9,Pixel C and Nexus Player.
Beta versions are usually released for testing and feedback purpose from general public or limited group of people or developers.

Notifications are now improvised in this OS version.
